Crackdown on resistance leaders condemned

Complete shutdown in Kulgam, Mandi town
Srinagar, February 25 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the Chairman of All Parties Hurriyat Conference, Syed Ali Gilani and other Hurriyat leaders have condemned massive crackdown operations on leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and other pro-freedom organizations by Indian forces in the territory.

Syed Ali Gilani in a statement issued in Srinagar said that the Kashmiri people were struggling for the past seven decades to get rid of the imposed slavery. He said India has waged a war against the entire population of the occupied territory. However, he maintained that such repressive measures could not legitimize New Delhi’s forced occupation of Jammu and Kashmir.

The Chairman of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir, Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai said the Indian forces have been given a free hand to instill fear and a sense of insecurity among Kashmiri masses.

The Mirwaiz led Hurriyat forum slammed the arrest of Muhammad Yasin Malik, Ameer of Jamat-e-Islami, Dr Abdul Hameed Fayaz and other pro-freedom leaders and activists. The forum said that India would achieve nothing by resorting to arbitrary arrests in the territory. The Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front in a statement while condemning the ongoing police and army crackdown against political and religious organizations and leaders said the suppression of peaceful political dissent was tantamount to imposition of martial law.

Thousands of people defying restrictions and braving the cold reached Kulgam to attend the funeral prayers of a martyr, Raqib Ahmad. Raqib was among three youth martyred by Indian troops in Turigam area of Kulgam on Sunday. Four rounds of funeral prayers were offered for the martyr.

Meanwhile, complete shutdown was observed in Kulgam and Mandi town of Pir Panjal area of Jammu region against the killings and in defense of Article 35A of the Indian constitution. All shops and other commercial establishments were closed while traffic was off the roads in the two places. Indian troops launched a door-to-door search operation in Bandipore and Pulwama districts, today.

Former puppet Chief Minister of occupied Kashmir, Omar Abdullah addressing party workers in Srinagar, warned against fiddling with Article 35A of the Indian constitution.

The Chief Minister of India’s West Bengal state, Mamata Banerjee addressing a core committee meeting of the Trinamool Congress in Kolktata, today, said that the Indian government had prior information regarding the February 14 Pulwama incident. She said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was doing politics with the blood of the slain Indian troops ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

On the other hand, the Patron of Pairwan-e-Wilayet, a constituent of APHC, Maulana Sibte Mohammad Shabbir Qummi in a statement issued in Srinagar expressed his anguish over the invitation by the OIC to the External Affairs Minister of India, Sushma Swaraj to the forthcoming session of the Muslim conglomerate in the United Arab Emirates saying that India was committing heinous crimes against the Muslims in India and occupied Kashmir.
