Srinagar, March 09 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the Indian National Investigation Agency (NIA) has summoned the Chairman of Hurriyat forum, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, to New Delhi for questioning in a fake case registered against him.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has been asked to appear before the probe agency on Monday. The notice comes after an NIA team raided the residence of Mirwaiz in Nigeen area of Srinagar on February 26, 2019 and searched the premises for over six hours. Mirwaiz  was placed under house arrest on Saturday soon after he was summoned by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

The NIA had also raided the houses of other Hurriyat leaders including Muhammad Yasin Malik, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai, Shabbir Ahmed Shah, Masarrat Aalam Butt, Yasmeen Raja, Zafar Akbar Butt and Dr Naseem Gilani, the son of APHC Chairman, Syed Ali Gilani. The NIA has also summoned Dr Naseem Gilani on Monday.

Earlier on 24th July 2017, the NIA had arrested Hurriyat leaders, Altaf Ahmad Shah, Shahid-ul-Islam, Ayaz Akbar, Farooq Ahmad Dar, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Raja Merajuddin Kalwal and Peer Saifullah. They are presently lodged in New Delhi’s Tihar Jail.
