Several injured during protests against custodial killing

Srinagar, March 19 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, a youth, teacher by profession, arrested by India’s National Investigating Agency (NIA) was tortured to death in custody, today.

The youth identified as Rizwan Pandit was arrested by the NIA sleuths from Awantipora area of Pulwama, last month, and lost his life due to torture during custody at the infamous Cargo camp run by Special Operations Group (SOG) of Indian police in Srinagar.

Rizwan Pandit was arrested from his house in Awantipora during a raid by the NIA, locals told media men.

The victim who was teacher at Hajaz Public School, Awantipora, was also arrested by the NIA on August 30, 2018.

A police official confirmed the death of Rizwan in custody and said that he had been arrested for questioning in a case related to the ongoing freedom struggle in the territory.

 Meanwhile, the killing of the teacher in NIA custody triggered forceful anti-India protest demonstrations in Awantipora and adjoining areas in Pulwama district. Several people were injured when Indian troops fired bullets, pellets and teargas shells on the protesters. The clashes between demonstrators and the Indian forces’ personnel were going on till last reports came in.
