Srinagar, April 04 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the Human Rights Commission has asked the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, to file his response to a petition seeking details of the detainees booked under draconian law, Public Safety Act (PSA), till date.

The petition filed by the Chairman of International Forum for Justice and Human Rights, Muhammad Ahsan Untoo, has also sought directives from the authorities to shift the detainees to the nearest place of their residences.

The Chairman of the Human Rights Commission, Justice (Retd) Bilal Nazki has issued the notice seeking compliance report within four weeks, the petitioner said.

“Innocent civilians have been booked under the draconian PSA and have been lodged in different jails of the territory,” Muhammad Ahsan Untoo said in a statement in Srinagar. He said the detention of persons under PSA and lodging them in the jails outside the Kashmir valley is aimed at harassing them and is one of the human rights violations on the part of the authorities.

The petitioner sought the transfer of all the detainees lodged in prisons outside the valley under PSA to the jails of the district where they actually belong to so that their relatives could meet them easily.
