‘NIA pinpoints Hurriyat leaders for advocating this right’

Brussels, April 06 (KNS): The All Party Group European Parliament on Kashmir (APGK) has said that they are convinced that right to self-determination to the Kashmiris should no longer be denied.

The APGK President, MEP Julie Ward and Vice President, MEP Klaus Buchner in a joint statement issued in Brussels, today, said that they had raised their voices and would continue to do so for a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute. They said the European Parliament has adopted resolutions and reports, urging respect of human rights, rule of law and confidence-building measures and hosted conferences where all parties involved in the Kashmir dispute have participated.

Julie Ward and Klaus Buchner said as India is heading this month towards general elections, they see signs, which are very disturbing-apparently to attract Hindutva voters.

They said the United Nations resolutions and the European Parliament have confirmed the Kashmiris’ right to self-determination but the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, is projecting this right as “sponsored terrorism”.

Julie Ward and Klaus Buchner deplored that the Indian forces in occupied Kashmir use excessive force which leads to killings of innocent people and a high number of injuries, many caused by pellet-firing shotguns. The resistance leaders – including the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front Chairman, Muhammad Yasin Malik – have been arrested under draconian Public Safety Act (PSA), they added.

Julie Ward and Klaus Buchner said India’s infamous National Investigation Agency (NIA) has pinpointed the Hurriyat leaders for fake cases simply because they advocate the right to self-determination for the people of Kashmir. They said the NIA raided the residence of Hurriyat forum Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, and is asking him to present himself at the NIA office in New Delhi.

They urged the Indian government not to pour more oil in the fire and abstain from any harassment and detention of the resistance leadership in the occupied territory.
