Gilani condemns economic crackdown on local media » Kashmir Media Service

Srinagar, April 07 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference Chairman, Syed Ali Gilani has strongly condemned the economic crackdown on local media, particularly some newspapers by Indian authorities in the territory.

Syed Ali Gilani in a statement issued in Srinagar said, “For the past so many decades every individual in Kashmir and institution are paying a heavy price for the historical blunders of self-centered political stalwarts.”

The APHC chairman said, “Delhi uses its executive and constitutional might to disintegrate every institution, be it our industries, agriculture, tourism, education, healthcare or politics, just to force us to beg them for help. Every political activity, elections etc. are a source of worry and harassment for us and curbing, punishing and harassing us have become a national obligation for the ruling class.”

“Throttling and curbing the media houses is part of the vast game plan. Those thumping the chest to uphold the fourth pillar of democracy are themselves the architects of the undemocratic assault on media,” he added.

He said, “Like every institution media people too have a strenuous and suffocating environment to carry out their professional duties and they too have been facing a double edged sword from the last so many decades.”

He asked how pathetic it was that after “every unrealistic, undemocratic and unethical assault on the basic and fundamental human rights, our highest bureaucracy is there to bail them out, by their explanations.”

“Depriving us of our resources, skinning off our identity and crushing us to maximum are the new doctrine of the rulers. Politicians, our intellectuals, writers, columnists and youth should dig deep and see and feel the venomous outcome of such union,” he added.

The octogenarian leader criticized the pro-India leaders for focusing on building their political cult without caring for the wishes and aspirations for the people, dampening the whole population in an unending pool of miseries, chaos and uncertainty.
