Srinagar, April 13 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, a woman, Raja Begum, is battling serious eye damage after she was severely tortured by Indian troops and police in Palhalan area of Baramulla district.

The family members of Raja Begum, 45, said that the police and troops barged into their house and thrashed them. They said, the forces’ personnel were coercing them to vote which they refused and had to face the wrath. They said that Raja Begum was hit by a police officer with gun butts.

Raja Begum, who is being treated at Ophthalmology ward of SMHS Hospital in Srinagar, in an interview said, “I was not a voter. I have never voted in my life,” she said.

“Police and CRPF personnel led by a DSP rank officer were forcing us to vote which I refused. This infuriated the officer and he started abusing me. Then he pushed me down and hit me with gun butts,” she said.

Doctors are uncertain about the recovery of her eyesight. “Raja Begum may not be able to see properly with her right eye as it is damaged seriously,” a doctor at the SMHS Hospital said.

Qaiser Ahmed, her son, said, “It is a case of harassment and coercing by Indian forces.”
