Gilani calls for shutdown, boycott of sham polls on Thursday » Kashmir Media Service

Srinagar, April 16 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference Chairman, Syed Ali Gilani, has urged the people to observe complete election boycott and shutdown on Thursday (April 18) in poll bound areas of Srinagar, Badgam and Ganderbal.

Syed Ali Gilani in a statement issued in Srinagar said that on one hand, ruthless killings, unabated arrest spree, economic strangulation, vehicular restriction and enforced demographic changes through judicial onslaught were on their peak, while on the other, a vast military exercise under the veil of election was being thrust on the helpless Kashmiris just to strengthen India’s illegal occupation over Jammu and Kashmir.

He said, “We are passing through crucial period of our struggle. It is a litmus test for our conscious, morality and commitment to the movement just like we did during 2017 Parliament elections in Srinagar, Badgam and Ganderbal districts,” he said.

“Our occupier is not only brutal but cunning as well. Votes on basic necessities and daily needs are being portrayed as endorsement for their forced occupation,” he pointed out.

Syed Ali Gilani said that pro-India parties and politicians were befooling the people with the promises, they themselves sold for their family gains. He said that all these old traitors and fresh entrants had a common goal to cement the oppressive bonds of India in return of perks and privileges for themselves, otherwise it is known to everybody that they are the main architects of all the miseries of the Kashmiri people.

“Conscious nations always strive hard to safeguard the future of their coming generations and we have got the opportunity once again to prove it not only to the oppressor but to the whole world as well,” he added.

Meanwhile, The Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front in a statement in Srinagar while terming the ongoing so-called elections as a drama appealed to the people to stay away from the polling process. It expressed serious concern over the continued illegal detention of party Chairman, Muhammad Yasin Malik, and his lodgment at unknown location by the NIA.

It also strongly condemned the shifting of Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer, Dr Abdul Hameed Fayaz, Jamiat Ahle Hadith Vice President, Mushtaq Ahmed Veeri, and other pro-freedom leaders to Indian jails saying that such repressive and inhuman acts cannot deter the Kashmiri people and their leadership to continue their ongoing freedom struggle.
