Srinagar, April 27 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the Federation of Chambers of Industries Kashmir (FCIK) has said that Kashmir economy is on the decline due to frequent closure of Srinagar-Jammu highway and regulations on the movement of transport.

The FCIK President, Muhammad Ashraf Mir, in a statement in Srinagar said the Jammu-Srinagar highway, the only operational road link of Kashmir to the rest of the world, is either closed or regulated and the movement of goods and passengers is not among the priorities of the occupation authorities.

He said the Kashmir-bound vehicles carrying raw material and machinery for the Kashmir industry are not allowed to move at all unless they grease the palms of officers of traffic department on check points. “Vehicles carrying machinery for Kashmir industrial units have been stopped for more than a month on the highway,” he deplored.

He said it seems Kashmir valley, in general, and Kashmir industry, in particular, is meted out this treatment to crush the economy. He said if proper and timely steps are not taken for the smooth movement of vehicular traffic on the highway the situation will worsen with every passing day and may take an ugly turn.
