Parimpora fruit market shuts highway blockade

Srinagar, April 29 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the Mirwaiz-led Hurriyat forum has denounced the prevention of hundreds of vehicles including trucks laden with fruits and vegetables from plying on Srinagar-Jammu highway on the pretext of movement of Indian forces’ convoys.

A spokesman for the forum in a statement issued in Srinagar said, “This move has resulted in huge loss to traders and shortage of essentials in the valley.”

He said it is an anti-people measure aimed at making the people of Kashmir struggle and begging even for items of daily need. “Such a move will choke the economy of Kashmir and trigger crisis in the valley,” he added.

The spokesman further said that the indefinite strike announced by the New Kashmir Fruit Association against the move to prevent entry of trucks laden with essentials into Kashmir from April 29 was justified and the entire Kashmir stood by the fruit dealers in this hour of crisis.

The forum extended its support to their demand and asks the authorities to withdraw the inhuman ban on people and goods movement on the highway that “is causing tremendous hardships for all segments of Kashmiri people.”

Meanwhile, all businesses working under the Parimpora fruit complex closed down their gates on Monday as a mark of protest against the indifferent attitude towards the continued denial to vegetable and fruit laden trucks on the Jammu-Srinagar highway.

“We had decided that we will go for an indefinite shutdown from April 29 in case the authorities do not take any initiative to solve our problems. All the shops are closed and we will be meeting later in the day to chalk out our further plan,” said a businessman in the complex.

The President of Jammu and Kashmir Youth Forum for Justice, Irshad Ahmad Malik, in a statement issued in Jammu, today, hailed the statement of Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, which he gave on Kashmir during his visit to China. Imran Khan had underscored the need for settlement of the Kashmir dispute through talks. Irshad termed the statement as positive.
