Srinagar, April 30 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, senior APHC leader and the Chairman of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai, has expressed concern over the nocturnal raids and arrest of over two dozen youth by Indian police in South Kashmir.

Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai in a statement issued in Srinagar, today, slammed New Delhi for pushing the Kashmiri youth to the wall. He said that the Indian forces had wreaked havoc and created a sense of insecurity among the youth in the territory particularly in South Kashmir. He deplored that New Delhi continued to ignore the basic reality of the Kashmir dispute and ground situation of the territory.

Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai said banning organizations, jailing leaders and activists, restricting every peaceful political dissent is not a democracy, which the Indian state claims to be. He said that these measures were against ethics of democracy and would have devastating effects. He said, by chocking the peaceful means of protest and denying democratic and basic rights to the Kashmiri people, Indian authorities are negating their own claims.

Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Chairman said that arrest spree in south Kashmir was going on unabated. He said it is a virtually a political witchhunt nothing else. “If you are confident that the people want to participate in electoral process, why do you need to put innocent youth behind bars?” he asked the Indian rulers. “Any opposing viewpoint is being crushed. “These are hallmarks of a democracy which government of India claims. This democracy turns into fascism when it comes to dealing Kashmir,” he added.
