Mirwaiz, Sehrai & others denounce arrests
Srinagar, May 02 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, Indian forces continuing their massive crackdown arrested more than six dozen people in South Kashmir ahead of the fifth and final phase of sham Indian parliamentary elections scheduled in Pulwama and Shopian on Monday.

Over 60 people were arrested in Gudoora, Newa, Tahab, Parigam, Chewakalan and Murran areas of Pulwama district. Six youth were arrested from Vehil and Narwah areas of Shopian district. The arrests were made just days ahead of the so-called Indian parliamentary elections on Islamabad’s Lok Sabha seat to be held on Monday.

The Chairman of Hurriyat forum, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir Chairman Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai, All Parties Hurriyat Conference and other Hurriyat leaders and organizations in their statements denounced the mass detention in South Kashmir. Taking to the Twitter, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said people of Kashmir will continue to be at the receiving end unless all those who claim to be champion of fundamental human rights speak up against the ongoing repression in occupied Kashmir. Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai said banning organisations, jailing leaders and activists and restricting every peaceful political dissent are against ethics of democracy and will have devastating effects.

The APHC in a statement while condemning the worst policy of suppression and repression, perpetrated by the Indian forces particularly against the young generation expressed deep concern over the deteriorating political scenario in Kashmir.

Hurriyat leaders Shabbir Ahmad Dar, Mohammad Iqbal Mir, Imtiyaz Ahmed Reshi, Ghulam Nabi War, Ghulam Nabi Wasim and Mushtaqul Islam in their statements also denounced the arrest spree.

The Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Freedom Movement, Muhammad Sharif Sartaj in a statement in Jammu said the sham Indian parliamentary election is nothing but a military exercise, which cannot be alternative to Kashmiris’ right to self-determination.

Participants of a meeting held in Kashtwar with Imam of central Jamia Masjid, Molvi Tariq Hussain in chair extended full support to the newly formed pro-freedom ‘Jammu and Kashmir Youth Forum’ in Jammu region.
