Srinagar, May 02 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, senior APHC leader and the Chairman of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat (TeH) Jammu and Kashmir, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai, has strongly condemned the arrest of over three dozen youth by Indian forces in South Kashmir’s Pulwama and Shopian districts ahead of sham Indian parliamentary elections.
Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai in a statement issued in Srinagar said that India was pushing the Kashmiri youth to the wall. The Indian forces have created a sense of insecurity among innocent youth in the occupied territory particularly in South Kashmir, he added. He said that India continued to ignore the basic reality and ground situation in Kashmir.
Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai said banning organisations, jailing leaders and activists, restricting every peaceful political dissent is not a democracy. He said, “These measures are against ethics of democracy and will have devastating effects. The rights of the people of Kashmir are muzzled and violated daily.”
Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Chairman said the arrest spree in south Kashmir is going on unabated, adding, “It is virtually a political witch-hunt, nothing else. Any opposing viewpoint is being crushed.”
It is to mention here that Pulwama and Shopian districts are scheduled to go for polls on May 06 during the final phase of the so-called Indian Parliamentary elections in occupied Kashmir and the last leg of the three-phased polls being held for the Islamabad constituency of the Lok Sabha. Indian troops and police personnel in their ongoing massive crackdown have arrested more than 40 youth since last week during nocturnal raids in the two districts.
