Kashmiris praised over poll boycott » Kashmir Media Service

300 polling booths saw no single voter

Srinagar, May 07 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference Chairman, Syed Ali Gilani has lauded the Kashmiri people for rejecting the fifth and final phase of election drama, enacted under the heavy army siege.

Syed Ali Gilani in a statement issued in Srinagar said that despite suffocating and obnoxious environment created by heavy military presence, India had miserably failed to convince people of the territory to participate in the military operation, conducted in the name of political exercise of elections. He also castigated the despotic and imperialistic approach adopted by India to turn Kashmir into a hell-like prison. The APHC chairman regretted that New Delhi was trying to let loose a reign of terror in the nook and corner of the territory by engaging its so-called investigative agencies like National Investigation Agency and Enforcement Directorate to malign the noble image of freedom movement.

In utter embarrassment to India, 300 out of 695 polling booths set up in Pulwama and Shopian saw not a single voter for the Islamabad’s Lok Sabha seat, yesterday. Chief Electoral Officer Shailendra Kumar said that 2.81 per cent votes were polled, while independent sources say that the actual turnout is far less than the officially stated one.

The students and scholars of Kashmir University’s Sociology Department organized an event on the theme of “We Remember! We Resist” in the university campus to pay glorious tributes to martyr PhD scholar, Professor Muhammad Rafi Butt. He was martyred by Indian troops in Shopian on May 6, last year. The students on the occasion said, Professor Rafi is their hero and a role model.

The NIA filed charge sheet against two Pulwama youth, Fazil Bashir Pinchoo and Shahid Qayoom in a false case registered in November 2018. The charge-sheet has been filed in the Special NIA Court, Mohali in Indian state of Punjab. The authorities invoked third draconian Public Safety Act against a Tehreek-e-Hurriyat leader, Mohammad Ramzan Sheikh, currently detained at Kot Bhalwal Jail in Jammu.

The Jammu and Kashmir Muslim League in a statement expressed concern over the ill-treatment meted out to Kashmiri prisoners in Udhampur, Kot Bhalwal, Kathu and other jails of occupied Kashmir and India.

Meanwhile, following in the footprints of former ruler of Kashmir, Maharaja Hari Singh, India has started extorting the Kashmiri people by imposing harsh toll tax even on Srinagar-Jammu highway. A large number of motorists staged protest at Sangam on the highway in South Kashmir against the cruel Indian decision.
