Sopore shuts for 2nd day to mourn killing of youth

Srinagar, May 11 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the Chairman of All Parties Hurriyat Conference, Syed Ali Gilani, has expressed serious concern over the miserable plight of illegally detained Kashmiri political prisoners languishing in different jails.

Syed Ali Gilani in a statement in Srinagar, today, said while the Universal Declaration of Human Rights provides a clear guideline for the governments of its member states, India brazenly denies the same rights to the political prisoners of Kashmir. He deplored that even during the holy month of Ramadan, the Kashmiri detainees were kept in solitary confinement in small cells without basic amenities as unhygienic food and insufficient medical facilities had made them to suffer miserably. He expressed solidarity with all incarcerated pro-freedom leaders and hailed their strong commitment and resolve. He appealed to the UN Human Rights Council, International Committee of Red Cross and Amnesty International to visit the Indian jails and take stock of the ill-treatment meted out to the Kashmiri prisoners. »

Srinagar, May 11 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, Indian troops launched a cordon and search operation (CASO) in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, today.

The troops cordoned off Panzgam area of the district and started searches.

The operation continued till last reports came in.

Srinagar, May 11 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, thousands of vehicles are stranded at various places on the Srinagar-Jammu highway, which remains closed for the traffic on the third consecutive day, today, due to landslides and shooting stones at various places in Ramban.

A traffic police official said although the traffic was restored late Friday night, but after fresh landslides near Digdole in Ramban it was again closed for traffic.

The Met department has predicted rains for the next three days in the territory which will likely trigger more landslides and shooting stones on the road. »

Jammu, May 11 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, Khateeb of Jamia Masjid Al-Mustafa in Mandi area of Jammu, Maulana Iqrar Haider, has strongly condemned the derogatory remarks against Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) and Hazrat Fatima (RA) by the BJP leader and Indian minister, Giriraj Singh.

Giriraj Singh addressing a public meeting in support of BJP candidate, Ramesh Bidhuri in Utter Pradesh had said, “Anybody can make a film like “Sexy Durga” but nobody has the courage to make one on Prophet Mohammed or Fatima. »

Ishfaq Ahmad Sofi, son of Hurriyat leader Mushtaq Ahmad Sofi, was martyred by Indian troops during a cordon and search operation in Amshipora area of Shopian, yesterday. »

Srinagar, May 11 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, complete shutdown is being observed in Sopore town and its adjoining areas in Baramulla district for the second consecutive day, today, against the killing of a youth by Indian troops.

The troops martyred the youth, Ishfaq Ahmed Sofi, during a cordon and search operation in Amshipora area of Shopian, yesterday. The martyred belonged to Model Town area of Sopore.

All shops and other business establishments are closed while a very thin movement of traffic is being witnessed on the roads in Sopore town. »
