JKPM condemns harassment of commuters on Mughal Road » Kashmir Media Service

Jammu, May 14 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the Jammu Kashmir Peoples Movement (JKPM), a constituent of All Parties Hurriyat Conference, has strongly condemned the harassment of commuters on the Mughal Road in the name of frisking which results into the torture of the passengers including patients, children, old aged and women.

The JKPM Chairman, Mir Shahid Saleem, in a statement in Jammu said that one conspiracy after another was being hatched to defeat the whole concept of Mughal Road ever since it was proposed in the early eighties. He said certain lobbies in the past over four decades have been using nefarious tactics to ensure that the project does not see light of the day.

He said now when this badly constructed road has been thrown open for the traffic, thousands of people from Rajouri and Poonch districts take this short distance to visit Srinagar and other parts of the Kashmir valley but an army check post at village Poshana has turned this journey for the commuters a worst nightmare. He said ever since this road was opened this year for the vehicular traffic a fortnight ago, hundreds of vehicles are stopped at the check post for frisking purpose and it takes several hours for the exercise because of vary limited man power. He said some passengers remain hold up for six to eight hours which turns this journey into a hell.

The JKPM Chairman said thousands of travelers are being subjected to collective punishment for none of their fault. He said that commuters were subjected to harassment and humiliation by Indian forces.
