Calls for complete shutdown in IOK on May 21

Srinagar, May 16 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the Awami Action Committee (AAC), headed by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, has announced various programs in connection with Hafta-e-Shahadat (Martyrdom Week) to mark the martyrdom anniversaries of prominent Hurriyat leaders, Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq and Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone as well as victims of Hawal massacre.

Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq was shot dead by unidentified gunmen at his residence in Srinagar on 21st of May in 1990. More than 70 mourners were killed in Hawal area of the city when Indian troops opened fire on his funeral procession. On the same day, in 2002, Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone was killed by unknown assailants when he was returning from Eidgah after addressing a public gathering.

The AAC in a statement issued in Srinagar while paying glowing tributes to Shaheed-e-Milat, Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq, Shaheed-e-Hurriyat, Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone, and the victims of Hawal carnage renewed its pledge to carry forward the mission of the Kashmiri martyrs. The statement said the Martyrdom Week will commence on May 18 with the recitation of holy Quran at all the district and Tehsil headquarters of AAC across Kashmir from 11 am onwards amid special prayers for Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq, Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone and all Kashmiri martyrs while the Anjuman-e-Auqaf Jamia Masjid, Srinagar, will organize a Husn-e-Qirat competition at the historic mosque. It said that on Sunday (May 19), a seminar will be organised by Hurriyat forum led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq at its Rajbagh headquarters in Srinagar where in Hurriyat leaders will speak and pay rich tributes to Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq, Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone and martyrs of Hawal massacre.

The AAC said that on Monday (May 20), Anjuman-e-Nusrat-ul-Islam will organize a seminar at the auditorium of Islmia Higher Secondary School, Rajouri Kadal, under the title “Amal Say Zindagi Banti Hai Janat Bhi, Jahanam Bhi”. “On the occasion, a special issue of Shaheed-e-Milat number 2019 will also be released. On the same day, the AAC will also hold a workers’ rally at its Rajouri Kadal headquarters in memory of the martyrs,” it said.

The AAC said that on Tuesday (May 21), complete shutdown will be observed across occupied Kashmir in memory of Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq, Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone, victims of Hawal massacre and all the martyrs of Kashmir struggle while after the Zuhr prayers, a congregational Fateha Khawani will be held at Martyrs’ Graveyard at Eidgah in Srinagar where Hurriyat leaders will address the people and reiterate the Kashmiris’ resolve to carry on the peaceful struggle for the right of self-determination.

The AAC deplored that for the first time since past 28 years, the occupation authorities have denied the permission to doctors for taking part in the free medical camp and blood donation camp that used to be set up outside the Jamia Masjid, Srinagar, in connection with the Martyrdom Week. It said that hundreds of people would get benefited by the free medical camp where patients were also distributed free medicine but ironically the authorities without giving any reason, have denied permission to the doctors from attending the camp, which was very unfortunate.

Meanwhile, illegally detained Hurriyat leader, Advocate Shahid-ul-Islam, in a message from New Delhi’s Tihar Jail paid tributes to Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq and Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone.
