Jammu, May 16 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the authorities have decided to revive the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Indian police in 9 districts of Jammu region.

The SOG was disbanded during PDP-Congress coalition regime in 2002 headed by late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. Presently, it exists only in Jammu district.

The authorities are in the process of equipping the group with latest and sophisticated gadgetry including bullet-proof vehicles.

“The new SOG will also take up the additional task of forming the Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs),”’ official sources told daily Excelsior.

The sources said that the new strength of the SOG would be drawn from the police. However, the officials and officers to be posted in the SOG will be trained. Search for such staff from constable to the Deputy Superintendent Police (DySP) level is on and it will be completed shortly and they will be posted at the district level, they added.

The sources said that strength of the SOGs at the district level would be much more than the level of 2002 but it would depend upon the emerging situation at the districts level.

According to sources, the officials of Indian Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had also recently suggested to the authorities of occupied Kashmir to revive the SOG in various districts and simultaneously raise more so-called Village Defence Committees (VDCs).
