Students hold demos in Srinagar » Kashmir Media Service

Srinagar, May 16 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, clashes erupted between students of different institutions of Srinagar and Indian forces’ personnel, today.

Students of Gandhi Memorial College Srinagar, MPML Higher Secondary School Srinagar and Government Industrial Training Institute Bagh-i-Dilawar Khan Srinagar assembled in Baba Demb area of Srinagar, today. Witnesses said that scores of students assembled on the main road and blocked the vehicular traffic movement on Khanyar-Naqashpora-Barbar Shah road.

The students were demanding exemplary punishment to the accused in the rape of three-year-old child in Sumbal area of Bandipora district.

A posse of police reached the spot and used brute force on the students, triggering clashes.

Meanwhile, Paerwan-e-Wilayet President, Maulana Sibte Muhammad Shabbir Qummi, and Chief Patrion, Maulana Shabbir Ahmad Sofi, in a joint statement issued in Srinagar condemned the use of brute force by Indian troops and police on peaceful protesters in the territory.

They said that instead of providing justice to minor victim of rape, Indian forces proved that they were trying to save the accused and suppress the voices of protesters. They said thanked the people for protesting with consensus across the valley against the heinous crime. They said that the Shia-Sunni unity defeat the vested interests who were trying to create divisions among the Muslims in the territory.
