Warsaw (Poland), May 17 (KMS): Kashmir Council Europe (KCEU) organized one-day camp in connection with its widespread awareness movement on the Kashmir dispute titled ‘One Million Signature Campaign’ in Warsaw, the Capital of Poland.
By making their signatures, a large number of polish people from different walks of life favoured oppressed people of occupied Kashmir during the signatures camp held on Thursday.
On the occasion, the KCEU Chairman, Ali Raza Syed, who is organizer of the campaign, said response of the people in Poland is very encouraging. He said, the Council has already organized successful camps in connection with the signature campaign in different EU countries and a massive number of people showed their positive response in the drive.
It is to mention here that the EU based campaign was first launched in Belgium a few years ago and so far, a large number of people in different European countries have signed the documents of the signature drive. Local NGOs and social activists based in different European countries have also supported the move and held camps in this regard in the host countries.
The basic aim of the EU based signature drive is to collect a million signatures in order to highlight the Kashmir dispute and pressurize New Delhi to stop human rights abuses being perpetrated by its troops in occupied Kashmir. The collection of one million signatures will be presented in the shape of a document to the European Parliament’s Human Rights Committee in order to raise the issue of human rights abuses in the occupied territory.
Commenting on the latest situation of occupied Kashmir, Ali Raza Syed said rejection of recently held so-called Indian parliamentary elections by the Kashmiri people shows that they want only their right to self-determination. “They always reject the Indian elections because this is not their political destination. They want end of Indian occupation over their land,” he said.
The KCEU Chairman urged the international community particularly the United Nations and European Union to impress upon India to stop its state terrorism in occupied Kashmir and take steps to settle the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the Kashmiris’ aspirations.
