Gilani, others pay rich tributes to Mirwaiz Farooq, Ghani Lone » Kashmir Media Service

Srinagar, May 20 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference Chairman, Syed Ali Gilani and other Hurriyat leaders have paid rich tributes to prominent Hurriyat leaders, Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq and Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone as well as victims of Hawal massacre on their martyrdom anniversaries.

Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq was shot dead by unidentified gunmen at his residence in Srinagar on 21st of May in 1990. More than 70 mourners were killed in Hawal area of the city when Indian troops opened fire on his funeral procession. On the same day, in 2002, Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone was killed by unknown assailants when he was returning from Eidgah after addressing a public gathering.

Syed Ali Gilani in a statement in Srinagar, paying tributes to the Shaheed-e-Hurriyat Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone and Mirwaiz Moulana Mohammad Farooq on their respective anniversaries, said that both the leaders played a glaring role for the ongoing movement for right to self-determination.

Recalling his personal relation with both the leaders, he said that he always treated them as younger brothers. They had immense leadership qualities and had dedicated their lives for the sacred cause of freedom movement, he added.

Terming Maulana farooq as an Islamic scholar and great orator and Abdul Ghani Lone a seasoned politician and a statesman, the APHC Chairman urged the people to observe a complete shutdown tomorrow and make “Eidgah Chaloo” programe a grand success to commemorate their martyrdom.

The Acting Chairman of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front Abdul Hamid Butt in a statement in Srinagar termed the two martyrs as legends and said the best tribute to be offered to these great sons of soil is to safeguard resistance, unity and oneness among the ranks and files of the resistance camp.

He said that Mirwaiz Muhammad Farooq and Khawaja Abdul Gani Lone strived for the holy cause and sacrificed their lives for it and therefore wrote their name with honor and dignity in the annals of history.
