Mirwaiz criticises authorities over curbs in Srinagar » Kashmir Media Service

Srinagar, May 21 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the Chairman of Hurriyat forum Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Tuesday criticized the Indian authorities for imposing restrictions in Srinagar to prevent people from commemorating the martyrdom anniversaries of prominent martyred leaders, Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq and Abdul Ghani Lone, as well as the martyrs of Hawal massacre.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who was put under house detention, last evening, in a statement in Srinagar said, “It is unfortunate that the authorities imposed restrictions to prevent the march towards Eidgah in Srinagar.”

“Shaheed Millat and Shaheed Hurriyat continue to live in the hearts of their people and their life and message continue to inspire us,” the Mirwaiz said.

Meanwhile, the forum spokesman in a statement also denounced the occupation authorities for caging Mirwaiz Umar Farooq at his residence, imposing curfew-like restrictions across downtown Srinagar and sealing all roads leading to the Martyrs’ Graveyard at Eidgah to prevent people from holding of congregational Fateha Khawani and a public rally to pay tributes to the martyrs and remember them on their martyrdom anniversary.

He said it is unfortunate that even commemorative rallies and gathering by Hurriyat are disallowed. He said such repressive measures cannot kill the reality of Kashmir dispute and the ideology that runs deep in the heart of every citizen of Kashmir regarding its resolution nor will it wash away the memories of the martyrdom of great leaders and all the martyrs of Kashmir struggle from the minds of people. He said the Kashmiris are committed to peaceful resolution of the lingering Kashmir dispute in accordance with their aspirations.
