Complete shutdown in IOK today

Srinagar, May 21 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the authorities imposed strict restrictions in different parts of Srinagar, today, to prevent a march towards Martyrs’ Graveyard at Eidgah in the city.

The Srinagar administration in a statement said that restrictions would be imposed in the areas falling under the jurisdiction of Nowhatta, Safa Kadal, Rainawari, Maharaj Gunj and Khanyar police stations in Srinagar.

The authorities also ordered closure of all schools and colleges, today.

Hurriyat leaders, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Engineer Hilal Ahmad War were placed under house arrest on Monday evening. Mirwaiz was supposed to lead the march from Jamia Masjid Srinagar to martyrs’ graveyard, Eidgah, in Srinagar.

The authorities also arrested Hurriyat leader Mukhtar Ahmed Waza when he was on his way to attend the rally to commemorate the martyrdom anniversary of Mirwaiz Molvi Farooq, Hawal martyrs and Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone at Eidgah in Srinagar. He was arrested by police in Islamabad town and lodged in Sadar police station, Islamabad.

Meanwhile, complete shutdown was observed in memory of Molvi Muhammad Farooq and Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone, Hawal and other Kashmiri martyrs. The shutdown call was given by Hurriyat leadership to commemorate the martyrdom anniversaries of Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq, martyrs of 1990 Hawal massacre and Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone.

The Secretary General of Washington-based World Kashmir Awareness Forum, Dr Ghulam Nabi Fai, Muhammad Yousuf Naqash, Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front-R and Islami Tanzeem-e-Azadi in their statements paid tributes to the martyrs. The Jammu and Kashmir Mahaz-e-Azadi at a meeting held in Srinagar with its President, Muhammad Iqbal Mir in the chair said that the secrifices of Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq, Khawaja Ghani Lone and other martyrs would not be allowed to go waste and their mission would be accomplished at all costs.
