Multiple funerals held for martyrs

Srinagar, May 22 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, Indian troops in their fresh act of state terrorism martyred two Kashmiri youth in Kulgam district, today.

The troops martyred the youth during a pre-dawn cordon and search operation in Gopalpora area of the district. The martyrs were identified as Zahid Ahmed Mantoo and Irfan Manzoor. Zahid was a resident of Feeripora area of Shopian while Irfan belonged to Paonwhi, Kulgam. Three houses were also damaged during the several-hour operation. The authorities suspended mobile internet service in Kulgam and Shopian districts. »

Srinagar, May 22 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, High Court Bar Association (HCBA) has appreciated the three Special Rapporteurs of the United Nations Human Rights Council for seeking details from India on steps taken to provide justice to the victims of torture and arbitrary killing in the territory since 1990.

The HCBA in a statement issued in Srinagar ridiculed the Indian response to the letter by the three Special Rapporteurs describing it as violation of the UN Charter and the international covenants. It said under the UN Charter, India is bound to bring to an end all the human rights violations taking place in occupied Kashmir and conduct a thorough, prompt and impartial investigation to provide justice to the victims and punish the culprits. »

Srinagar, May 22 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, an Indian soldier was killed and seven others were injured in an explosion of Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Mendhar area of Poonch district, today.

The explosion took place when an army patrol of 12 Madras Regiment was going through the area at Dhera Dabsi. »

Srinagar, May 22 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference Chairman, Shabbir Ahmed Dar, and other Hurriyat leaders including Muhammad Iqbal Mir, Imtiaz Ahmed Reshi, Ghulam Nabi Waseem and Ghulam Nabi War have condemned the continued illegal detention of ailing Dukhtaran-e-Millat chief, Aasiya Andrabi, and her associates languishing in New Delhi’s Tihar jail.

The leaders in their statements in Srinagar said, “Despite being ill, DeM chief’s illegal detention is a glaring example of Indian government’s stubbornness and frustration.” »

New Delhi, May 22 (KMS): In total disregard to the international obligations, India has shamelessly informed the United Nations body that it will not entertain any communication with the Human Rights Council (HRC) Special Rapporteurs on its report on human rights violations in occupied Kashmir.

The report from the UN body came at the same time a report from two IOK based human rights organizations Jammu and Kashmir Coalition of Civil Society and Association of Parents of Disappeared Persons on the cases of torture was released in Srinagar, which was endorsed by a former UN Special Rapporteur. »

Srinagar, May 22 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the Hurriyat forum led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has denounced the occupation authorities for placing the Mirwaiz under house arrest and imposing curfew across downtown, Srinagar, to prevent a march towards the Martyrs’ Graveyard at Eidgah in the city on Tuesday.

The Hurriyat leadership had called for the march to pay tributes to the prominent Hurriyat leaders, Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq and Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone, as well as the victims of Hawal massacre on their martyrdom anniversaries. Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq was shot dead by unidentified gunmen at his residence in Srinagar on 21st of May 1990. 70 mourners were killed in Hawal area of the city when Indian troops opened fire on the funeral procession of the martyr. On the same day, in 2002, Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone was killed by unknown assailants when he was returning from Eidgah after addressing a public gathering. »
