Srinagar, May 22 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, High Court Bar Association (HCBA) has appreciated the three Special Rapporteurs of the United Nations Human Rights Council for seeking details from India on steps taken to provide justice to the victims of torture and arbitrary killing in the territory since 1990.

The HCBA in a statement issued in Srinagar ridiculed the Indian response to the letter by the three Special Rapporteurs describing it as violation of the UN Charter and the international covenants. It said under the UN Charter, India is bound to bring to an end all the human rights violations taking place in occupied Kashmir and conduct a thorough, prompt and impartial investigation to provide justice to the victims and punish the culprits.
The HCBA also appreciated the role played by the Association of Parents of Disappeared Persons and Jammu and Kashmir Coalition of Civil Society in highlighting the human rights violations being perpetrated by Indian troops in the territory from 1990 onwards.

The HCBA denounced the handover of 60 Kanals of land at Zakoora to Central Reserve Police Force for 99 years, by the District Magistrate, Srinagar, in violation of the orders of the High Court.
