Washington, May 06 (KMS): The concept of self-determination is  a vexing but significant topic in the field of human rights. It is the idea of government by the consent of the governed eternally memorialized in the soaring prose of President Thomas Jefferson in America’s Declaration of Independence. Self-determination which enjoys universal support is celebrated in the United Nations Charter, in the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, and in the United Nations General Assembly resolutions. Article I of the United Nations Charter enshrines as a major purpose the development of friendly relations among nations based on respect for the “principle of equal rights and self-determination of peoples.” Self-determination was a central creed of President Woodrow Wilson’s famous Fourteen Points to end World War I. Self-determination was also the libretto of India in obtaining independence from Great Britain. And as regards Kashmir, self-determination is expressly embraced in United Nations Security Council resolutions as the international law formula for determining the status of the disputed territory. »

Glowing tributes paid to three martyred youth

Srinagar, May 04 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the Chairman of All Parties Hurriyat Conference, Syed Ali Gilani, has urged the people to completely boycott the fifth and final phase of the sham Indian Parliamentary elections and observe complete shutdown in the poll-bound areas on Monday.

Syed Ali Gilani in a statement issued in Srinagar, today, said that ruthless killings, unabated arrest spree, economic strangulation, vehicular restriction and enforced demographic changes through judicial onslaught were being carried out in occupied Kashmir by India. However, on the other side, he added, a vast military exercise under the veil of elections was being forced on Kashmiris to strengthen India’s rule and hoodwink the world community about the prevailing situation in the occupied territory. He urged the world community to come to the rescue of Kashmiris who were being victimized for their legitimate demand for right to self-determination and help resolve the Kashmir dispute in accordance with their aspirations. »

Jammu, May 04 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the illegally detained Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Islami Tanzeem-e-Azadi, Abdul Samad Inqilabi, has said that India has been occupying Jammu and Kashmir against the will of the Kashmiri people who will continue their liberation struggle till complete success.

Abdul Samad Inqilabi in a message from Kot Bhalwal Jail, Jammu, said the people of Kashmir have never accepted the India’s occupation over Kashmir and are struggling for securing their birthright to self-determination. »

Srinagar, May 04 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference Chairman, Syed Ali Gilani, was re-admitted in Soura Institute of Medical Sciences in Srinagar, today, for cardiac check-up and pacemaker assessment.

An APHC spokesman in a statement issued in Srinagar said that generator of Syed Ali Gilani’s pacemaker was changed by a team of cardiologists.

“Procedure lasted for about one and a half hour and was uneventful. Hurriyat Chairman is under strict intensive care observation and recovering by the grace of Almighty Allah, sincere and professional care and good wishes of the people,” he added.

Srinagar, May 04 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference Chairman, Syed Ali Gilani, and other Hurriyat leaders and organizations have paid glowing tributes to the three Kashmiri youth martyred by Indian troops in Shopian district, yesterday.

The troops martyred the youth, Lateef Ahmed Dar, Tariq Molvi and Shariq Ahmed Negroo, during a violent cordon and search operation in Imam Sahib area of the district. »

Meanwhile, complete shutdown was observed in the two districts, today, to mourn the killing of three youth by Indian troops. The authorities also continued to suspend train service for the second consecutive day, today, on Srinagar-Banihal track. »

Srinagar, May 04 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the High Court Bar Association (HCBA) has strongly condemned the use of brute force by Indian troops and police against civilians in Shopian, yesterday.

Over twenty people were injured, some of them critically, when Indian police and troops fired bullets, pellets and teargas shells on peaceful demonstrators who were protesting against the killing of three youth. »

Jammu, May 04 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, Indian army personnel tortured a pesh imam (prayer leader) of a Jamia Masjid in Loran area of Poonch district in Jammu region without any reason.

The Indian troops targeted the pesh imam, Maulana Abdul Hameed Naeemi, when he was returning from Srinagar to Poonch. The troops asked him to get down from vehicle in Kulgam and subjected him to torture for more than an hour. »
