Protesters block Srinagar-Jammu highway

Srinagar, June 20 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, members of Sikh community continued to hold protest demonstrations against the thrashing of a Kashmiri Sikh driver and disrespect to Sikh symbols by men in uniform in New Delhi.

The Sikh community members assembled at Press Enclave in Srinagar, today, and staged the protest demonstration against the brutal torture of a Sikh auto-diver and his son and disrespect to the driver’s turban by Delhi police. Amid growing incidents of discrimination against minorities, particularly Kashmiri Sikhs and Muslims in India, the protesters appealed to the international human rights bodies to intervene in the matter. Such protest demonstrations were held by Sikh and Muslim youth in Tral area of Pulwama district, yesterday. »

Srinagar, June 20 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, people, today, held a protest demonstration and blocked the traffic movement on Jammu-Srinagar highway in Qazigund after an army vehicle hit a minor boy.

Reports said four years old Muzamil Ahmad Wagay sustained injuries after an army vehicle hit him in Wuzur area.

They said that the vehicle, which was part of an army convoy, fled from the scene after hitting the boy, angering the locals who staged a protest later. »

Srinagar, June 20 (KMS): The Tribunal headed by Justice Chander Shekhar of the Delhi High Court recorded statements of two “protected” witnesses produced by the Indian government to defend its decision to ban socio-religious organisation Jamaat-e-Islami in Kashmir.

The Tribunal held first of the three sittings at the High Court Complex in Srinagar and will continue till June 21.

The Unlawful Activities Prevention Tribunal headed by Justice Chander Shekhar of the Delhi High Court has been set up to adjudicate if there exists sufficient cause to ban Jamaat-e-Islami in Kashmir. »

Srinagar, June 20 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, illegally detained Chairman of Islami Tanzeem-e-Azadi, Abdul Samad Inqilabi has expressed concern over the continued illegal detention of Hurriyat leaders and activists.

Abdul Samad Inqilabi in a statement issued in Srinagar said that the Indian government was harassing the people of Kashmir irrespective of their age and gender. He said women Hurriyat leaders Aasiya Andrabi and her associates have been lodged in jail and their illegal detention is being prolonged in one pretext or the other. »

Srinagar, June 20 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, a meeting of Kashmir Editors Guild (KEG) was held to discuss various issues confronting the media in Kashmir.

The members resolved to create an atmosphere that will help create a free and independent institution of media in the territory.

The meeting also complimented the efforts of the members to help establish an institution of media that is professional to the core as media in Kashmir has been operating in a testing situation since the past three decades. »
