Highway ban will worsen IOK economy: JMF » Kashmir Media Service

Srinagar, July 05 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the Jammu Muslim Front (JMF) has said that restrictions on civilian movement on Srinagar-Jammu highway for five hours in a day, during Amarnath Yatra, create chaos as people including tourists will suffer, thus affecting the economy of the territory.

The JMF spokesman in a statement appealed the authorities to constitute a committee of traders, especially transporters, hoteliers and fruit growers, to take responsibility in safe conduct.

He said such bans convey negativity. “A wave of hatred will grip the people of both Jammu and Kashmir,” the spokesman quoted JMF Chairman, Shuja Zafar, as saying.

Meanwhile, a large number of people staged a sit-in protest at Press Enclave in Srinagar against five hours ban on civilian movement on Srinagar-Jammu highway and suspension of trains on Qazigund-Banihal track during Amarnath Yatra.

Holding placards that read, “Yes to Yatra, No to Ban”, “Revoke Highway and Train Restrictions,” the protesters said that the authorities were turning a blind eye towards the plea by blocking the highway.

They said besides common masses, the restrictions have hit the economy of the territory and hoteliers, transporters and fruit growers are suffering the most.
