Srinagar, July 10 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, family members and relatives of illegally detained Hurriyat leader, Sarjan Barkati, on Wednesday staged a protest demonstration at Press Enclave in Srinagar, demanding his release at the earliest.

The protesters said they are suffering badly since he was arrested by police. Sughra, Barkati’s daughter, said her father was arrested in 2016 and was still languishing in jail.

Around 57 cases have been registered against him and he was booked under draconian law, Public Safety Act (PSA) twice, she said, adding the authorities have implicated him fake cases.

Sughra said her mother was recently attacked by unknown persons outside her home.

“If anything untoward happens in the family, the authorities will be responsible for it,” she warned and urged the release of her father.
