Srinagar, July 11 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, Jammu and Kashmir Ittehadul Muslimeen Chief Patron, Maulana Abbas Ansari, Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Movement (JKPM), a constituent of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC), and other Hurriyat leaders and organizations have welcomed the report released by the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) on the gross human rights violations committed by Indian troops in the territory.

Maulana Abbas Ansari while welcoming the UN report urged Pakistan and India to find out a political solution to the Kashmir dispute through tripartite talks to put an end to rights violations in the occupied territory.

APHC leader and the JKPM Chairman, Mir Shahid Saleem in a statement issued in Srinagar, while welcoming the latest UN report, said the World Body should do more to make India accountable for its acts of human rights violations in occupied Kashmir.

He said that although it was a second report of its kind highlighting the atrocities being committed by Indian forces on the people of Kashmir but India was in no mood to listen to the voice of the World Body and continued its policy of state terrorism in the occupied territory.

Mir Shahid Saleem said people of Kashmir and leadership have always been calling for an international probe into the gross human rights violations in Kashmir but India never allowed it to happen. He urged the United Nations to exert pressure on India through its member nations to allow a UN commission of enquiry to probe the human rights abuses in occupied Kashmir.

The Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Employees Movement, Muhammad Shafi Lone in a statement in Srinagar welcomed the second report on the grim rights situation in Kashmir released by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).

He, however, lamented that the OHCHR had also released the same kind of report last year, but it seemed that the UN-like global organization was so helpless that it was unable to implement its own recommendations.
