Curbs in Srinagar; Gilani, Mirwaiz under house arrest

Srinagar, July 12 (KMS): Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control and the world over will observe Kashmir Martyrs’ Day, tomorrow, to reaffirm the pledge to continue the mission of their martyrs till the achievement of the inalienable right to self-determination.

The day will be marked by complete shutdown and a march towards Naqashband Sahib in Srinagar where martyrs of 1931 are buried. Call for the shutdown and march has been given by the Joint Resistance Leadership.

On the 13th of July 1931, the troops of Dogra Maharaja had killed 22 Kashmiris, one after the other, outside Central Jail in Srinagar during the court proceedings against one Abdul Qadeer who had asked Kashmiri people to defy the Dogra rule. Thousands of people had gathered outside the court to show their solidarity with Abdul Qadeer. As the time for obligatory Zuhr prayers approached, one of the youth stood up and started reciting Azan. He was shot dead by the Dogra soldiers and next youth started the Azan where it was left by the martyred youth. He was also killed and in the process of completing the Azaan a total of 22 Kashmiris were martyred, one after the other. »

Srinagar, July 12 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, a youth was critically injured in a mysterious blast in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, today.

The youth identified as Javaid Ahmed Dar, a resident of Zasov area of Pulwama, was collecting waste material near a dumping site when the explosion took place.

He was shifted to district hospital Pulwama for treatment where from he was referred to Srinagar hospital for specialized treatment.

Srinagar, July 12 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the authorities disallowed people to offer congregational Juma prayers, today, at Srinagar’s historic Jamia Masjid.

The authorities imposed restrictions in downtown Srinagar, today, by deploying Indian troops and police personnel in strength. The restrictions have been imposed in view of a march towards the Martyrs’ Graveyard at Naqashband Sahib in Srinagar, tomorrow. »

Srinagar, July 12 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the Indian army has asked the residents of Pulwama district of southern Kashmir to submit vehicle registration documents along with the vehicle owner’s photograph at the local army camps.

A senior army official told media that the documents of all vehicles should be complete. There should be no unidentified vehicle whose registration number and registration papers don’t match, he said.

Srinagar, July 12 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, traders, fruit growers and civil society members held a protest at Sopore Fruit Mandi, today, to demand revocation of order restricting the movement of civilian vehicles on Srinagar-Jammu highway during the ongoing Amarnath yatra.

The protesters were holding placards and banners with messages like ‘we love yatris’, ‘lift the ban on highway’ and ‘save fruit industry of valley’. »

Srinagar, July 12 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the Hurriyat forum and Awami Action Committee have strongly condemned the house detention of their Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and prevention of people from offering Juma congregational prayers in historic Jamia Masjid of Srinagar.

The statement said that curbs on Juma prayers in Jamia Masjid and stopping Mirwaiz Umar Farooq to fulfill his religious responsibility of leading Juma prayers is tantamount to usurp religious freedom of the people. »

Srinagar, July 12 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, complete shutdown will be observed, tomorrow, to mark the Kashmir Martyrs’ Day, the 13th July.

Call for the shutdown has been given by the Joint Resistance Leadership to reiterate the urgent need for a peaceful and just resolution of the Kashmir dispute and to put an end to repression against the Kashmiri people and Hurriyat leaders. The JRL has appealed to the people to conduct a march towards the Martyrs’ Graveyard at Naqashband Sahib in Srinagar and offer prayers for the martyrs collectively. »

Srinagar, July 12 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the authorities have imposed restrictions in Nowhatta area of Srinagar, today, on the second martyrdom anniversary of a youth, Sajjad Ahmed Gilkar.

Witnesses told media that the authorities have made heavy deployment of Indian troops and police personnel in the area since morning to prevent people from visiting the residence of the martyred youth and paying tributes to him. »

Srinagar, July 12 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, Indian police arrested ten youth in Baramulla and Islamabad districts.

The police arrested seven youth, Aadil Ahmed War, Shahnawaz Ahmed War, Zahoor Ahmed War, Tariq Ahmed War, Irfan Ahmed Malik, Irshad Ahmed Malik and Tawheed Ahmed Lone, during house raids in Sopore and Rafiabad areas of Baramulla district. »
