Srinagar, July 16 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, Indian police inducted more than five dozen new members of the Village Defence Committees (VDCs), notorious for killing local Muslims at the behest of Indian army and police, in Kishtwar district of Jammu region.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kishtwar, Shakti Kumar Pathak, in a media interview in Srinagar tried to justify the induction of killer VDC members by saying, “Keeping in view the present security scenario in Kishtwar town and the over stay of SPOs in the District, a fresh overhauling is being done.”

He further said, “Recently, 64 new members of VDCs have also been inducted in the vicinity of Kishtwar town keeping in view the security scenario and threat perception.”Further, after the recently held SPOs recruitment in district Kishtwar, a list of 85 members has been sent to the Police headquarters for final approval, he added.

VDCs were created in IOK during Governor’s rule in 1995 and the militia comprising mostly Hindus was provided with weapons to carry out genocide of the Muslims in Jammu region including Doda district.

The then Additional Chief Secretary (Home) accorded sanction to their creation (Order No. 293-of 1995). These VDC members are involved in massacring hundreds of innocent Muslims mostly in Jammu region.
