JI aged leader arrested under PSA

Srinagar, July 17 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, Indian troops in their fresh act of state terrorism martyred a Kashmiri youth in Sopore town, today.

The youth identified as Adnan Channa was killed by the troops during a cordon and search operation in Gund Brath area of the town. The martyr was a resident of Old Town, Baramulla. The killing of Adnan Channa triggered shutdown in Sopore and Baramulla towns. The locals took to the streets and held anti-India protests against the killing. The authorities suspended internet services and closed all educational institutions in Sopore and Baramulla.

Indian troops also launched cordon and search operations in Srinagar, Baramulla, Bandipore, Pulwama and Islamabad districts. A youth was injured after police fired pellets on protesters in Wahibugh area of Pulwama. Police arrested another youth in Nowhatta area of Srinagar during the operation.

Meanwhile, Indian authorities arrested an aged leader of Jamaat-e-Islami, Ghulam Qadir Lone, under black law, Public Safety Act. Ghulam Qadir Lone, who is also former General Secretary of Jamaat was summoned at Kralgund Police Station of Handwara and was detained under the draconian law. He was shifted to Mattan jail.

Senior APHC leader and Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir Chairman, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai in a statement issued in Srinagar urged international human rights organizations to visit the jails in and outside Kashmir to take stock of the plight of Kashmiri prisoners. He condemned the slapping of PSA on one Huzaifa Ahmed Butt and arrest of Ghulam Hassan Shah, Irfan Ahmed and Abdul Majeed by Indian police.

On the other hand, a report released by the Kashmir Media Service on the occasion of International Justice Day, today, said that as many as 95,411 people were killed including 7,128 in custody by Indian forces in occupied Kashmir since January 1, 1989 to June 30, 2019. The report demanded that the Indian rulers, army and police officers involved in war crimes be prosecuted in the International Criminal Court. The report said that the people of Kashmir have no faith in Indian judiciary that is collaborating with the rulers in prolonging the detention periods of the Kashmiris. Few Kashmiris like Muhammad Maqbool Butt and Muhammad Afzal Guru have been subjected to judicial murder in India.

Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party in a statement issued in Srinagar appealed to the justice-loving people of the world to raise their voice against the illegal detention of party Chairman Shabbir Ahmad Shah and other political prisoners of Kashmir, lodged in different Indian jails.
