Mirwaiz, others welcome Trump’s statement on Kashmir » Kashmir Media Service

Srinagar, July 23 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, a day after US President Donald Trump said that he was ready to mediate between India and Pakistan for the resolution of Kashmir dispute, Hurriyat forum Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Tuesday welcomed the statement.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in a statement issued in Srinagar, today, said, “Being the most affected party, the people of Kashmir want an early resolution to the lingering Kashmir conflict.” He said he has been asking for dialogue at all levels and that every effort that pushes India and Pakistan in that direction is welcome by the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

The Chairman of Muslim Conference, Shabbir Ahmed Dar, and other Hurriyat leaders including Muhammad Yousuf Naqash, Muhammad Iqbal Mir, Imtiyaz Ahmed Reshi, Ghulam Nabi Wasim and Ghulam Nabi War in their statements termed the joint press briefing of Prime Minister Imran Khan and President Donald Trump as historic. They said the offer of mediation by Trump assumes significance as the request has been made by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

People’s Political Party (PPP) Chairman and APHC leader, Engineer Hilal Ahmad War, appreciated the US President’s concern and said it is a good omen for India, Pakistan and people of Kashmir. He said Kashmir issue is a potential nuclear war threat which can engulf the entire world at any point of time.

The Jammu Kashmir People’s Movement (JKPM) Chairman, Mir Shahid Saleem, in a statement said world powers cannot remain a silent spectator to the continued bloodshed and suffering of the Kashmiris. He said this is a moral as well as constitutional responsibility of the US and other big powers to promote peace and development in South Asia which is not possible until Kashmir issue is resolved as per the wishes and aspirations of the people of the disputed territory.

The Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front spokesman in a statement issued in Srinagar said that the US President Donald Trump’s call for resolution of the Kashmir dispute and his willingness to mediate between the stakeholders was a heartening breakthrough. He said the Kashmiris living across the globe not only welcome the statement of President Trump but also thank him for this bold initiative.

“This statement is a reflection of the reality of Jammu Kashmir being a conflict zone that deserves an early resolution. Despite every tactics and tyrannical approach, India has failed to undo this internationally recognised and unresolved issue and once again it has been proved beyond doubt that it is only the peaceful resolution of this vexed problem that can ensure a lasting peace, stability and development of the whole South Asian region,” he added.

Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party also welcomed Donald Trump’s offer for mediation on Kashmir. It urged Indian leadership to respond positively to the Trump’s offer. The party on completion of its Chairman Shabbir Ahmad Shah’s two years in prison said that India had failed to break his resolve for freedom. The DFP Vice President, Mehmood Ahmed Saghar, in a statement issued in Islamabad said that it is high time that New Delhi should seize the moment and reciprocate Trump’s offer positively.
