Srinagar, July 26 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, senior APHC leader and the Chairman of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai, has appealed to the world human rights organizations to play their role in the release of illegally detained Kashmiri Hurriyat leaders and activists languishing in different jails.

Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai in a statement issued in Srinagar said that the occupation authorities were deliberately prolonging the illegal detention of Hurriyat leaders and activists for their political belief and ideology while declaring them criminals, which was a blatant human rights violation.

He strongly condemned the continued illegal detention of party leader, Syed Imtiyaz Haider. He said that the authorities were not releasing Syed Imtiyaz Haider despite the fact that the court had quashed his detention under draconian law, Public Safety Act (PSA), and ordered his release. He said that by such tactics, the authorities were making a mockery of their own judicial system.

Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai said the administration is practicing all the methods of coercion, oppression and arm twisting to punish the Kashmiris by jailing them.

“In the decades of its existence, the PSA has ruined countless lives. The families of those who are detained face severe financial difficulties because they spend all of their savings on legal procedures to get their loved ones out of jail,” he added.
