Srinagar, July 31 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir Chairman, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai, has strongly condemned the slapping of draconian law Public Safety Act (PSA) for the second consecutive time on party leader, Syed Imtiaz Haider, and his subsequent shifting to Amphala jail in Jammu.

Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai in a statement issued in Srinagar, today, said the court had quashed Imtiaz Haider’s PSA and ordered his release but he was, instead, kept in police custody till another PSA was slapped on him.

“We strongly condemn this repression. Using laws to prolong incarceration of political leaders and activists is most unfortunate,” he said and added that the detainees were subjected to vengeance and were deliberately shifted to the jails outside the Kashmir valley.

The Indian authorities, he said, even ignore the ruling of their own Supreme Court regarding prisoners wherein they have been clearly directed to lodge the detainees close to their home cities. He expressed dismay over the silence maintained by human rights organizations over the inhuman treatment meted out to the Kashmiri detainees by the Indian authorities.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai welcomed the acquittal of a Kashmiri man, Sheikh Imran, after 16 years of illegal detention. He said after implicating him in false cases, the Indian judicial system made him to spend 16 years in jail. It took them 16 years to come to a conclusion that Sheikh Imran is innocent, he deplored.

A TeH delegation led by Bashir Ahmed Qureshi visited the residence of Sheikh Imran and greeted him over his release.
