Lifting of ban on Muharram processions in IOK demanded » Kashmir Media Service

Srinagar, August 01 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the Anjuman Sharie Shian, a constituent of All Parties Hurriyat Conference, staged a sit-in protest at Lal Chowk in Srinagar to demand lifting of ban on the processions of 8th and 10th Muharram in the territory.

The protest was led by senior APHC leader and Anjuman Sharie Shian President, Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi Al-Safvi.

Addressing the protesters, Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi Al-Safvi termed as unjustified the ban on religious processions of Muharram. He demanded of the occupation authorities to allow the Muslims to hold these religious gatherings.

It is to mention here that traditionally main procession of 8th Muharram used to start in Srinagar from Shaheed Gunj and culminate at Dalgate after passing through different areas while the procession of 10th Muharram would start from Aabi Guzar and end at Zadibal. However, the occupation authorities banned these processions in 1990 and now only small mourning rallies are allowed in selected areas.
