Srinagar Mayor Junaid Mattu placed under house arrest » Kashmir Media Service

Srinagar, September 03 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the Indian authorities placed the Mayor of Srinagar, Junaid Mattu, under house arrest after he criticized the Narendra Modi government’s Kashmir policies.

Junaid Mattu, who was granted the status of a minister three weeks after the Modi government decided to scrap the special status of occupied Kashmir, in an interview had termed the developments in the Kashmir valley since 5th August as deeply disturbing and anguishing.

The mayor also dismissed the claims of the Indian government that the situation in the valley was normal, saying that just because there aren’t dead bodies lying around on the streets of Kashmir, it doesn’t mean everything is normal.

Junaid Mattu criticized New Delhi’s decision to place pro-India politicians in the valley under house arrest. He added that these politicians must strive to restore the eroded constitutional rights of Jammu and Kashmir and seek a reversal of the Indian government’s move.
