Burton (UK), September 14 (KMS): A protest demonstration will be held on September 21 in Burton town centre in support of the oppressed people of occupied Kashmir facing India’s new onslaught since August 05.

The Kashmir Forum in Burton is organizing the demonstration at the Memorial Gardens in Lichfield Street to express solidarity with the people of the occupied territory.

The Indian government repealed special status of occupied Kashmir on August 05 and since then the people of the territory have been facing continued curfew, restrictions and communication blockade.

The Kashmir Forum is a non-political group and has a widespread connection with towns and cities all over the United Kingdom and even internationally, with forums in Norway, France and Canada.

Burton MP, Andrew Griffiths and Councillor, Edward Barker, deputy leader for East Staffordshire Borough Council, were among the people present at the meeting.

Andrew Griffiths spoke about the severity of the events in occupied Kashmir and lauded the efforts of the Kashmir Forum.

Khadim H Thathall, chairman of the Kashmir Forum in Burton, said, “When the news first broke about what happened in Kashmir on August 5, we were all extremely concerned about the events and to raise awareness, decided to have a public meeting.”

He said, “We have sent out a petition relating to the Kashmir issue to all the community centres in Burton as we feel this is a humanitarian issue, therefore we urge everyone to sign the petition that seeks support for allowing Kashmiris to decide their own fate and live freely.”
