Islamabad, September 18 (KMS): President Dr Arif Alvi has said that India took an illegal, immoral, and inhuman step by revoking the Special Status of Kashmir on 5th of the last month.

Addressing the National Parliamentarians Conference on Kashmir in Islamabad this evening, he said the people of Kashmir are striving for getting their homeland freed from Indian occupation.

The President said it was the Indian leadership, who had taken the Kashmir dispute to the United Nations, where Kashmiris were promised to give an opportunity to either join Pakistan or India through a plebiscite. He said the long-standing issue of Kashmir is looking towards UN, international community, and world powers to play their due role for its solution as per aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

Dr Arif Alvi said Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is pursuing a path of disenfranchising Muslims and other religious minorities. He said even Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi was not allowed to visit Kashmir as the Modi regime is hell-bent to strangulate every sane voice raising concerns over the grave human rights violations in occupied Kashmir.

The President said that revocation of Article 370 should be reversed, the United Nations should send fact finding missions to ascertain grave human rights violations in occupied Kashmir and UN Military Observer Mission in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) be allowed to visit the occupied Valley to take stock the ground situation. He said the UN should also be encouraged to pass more resolutions for settlement of Kashmir dispute in accordance with Kashmiris’ will. Similarly, if feasible, International Court of Justice should also be approached over recent developments in occupied Kashmir. He called for effective use of social media to expose Indian atrocities in the occupied territory and reinforcing diplomatic presence in important countries.

The President said Pakistan is standing with the people of Kashmir and will remain so in future as well. He said India should not even think of harming Pakistan as we will respond with full force as we did in downing its two fighter jets.
