Academics, scientists concerned about IOK situation

Helsinki, September 21 (KMS): A large number of Kashmiris and their sympathizers held an anti-India demonstration in central Helsinki during Indian Foreign Minister, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar’s first official visit to Finland.

The protesters were holding banners with slogans of “Right to self-determination is fundamental right of Kashmiris”, “India stop genocide in Kashmir” and “Modi is Hitler of South Asia”.

Over 500 academics and scientists from India, South Asia and other parts of the world in a statement have expressed deep concern about the humanitarian crisis in occupied Kashmir caused by continued curfew. They demanded restoration of all communications links in occupied Kashmir, lifting of restrictions, release of detainees and investigations into violations of human rights in the territory.

On the other hand, the President of London-based Jammu Kashmir Council for Human Rights, Dr Syed Nazir Gilani, in statement urged the Azad Jammu and Kashmir government, Kashmiri Diaspora and various political and civil society groups to join hands to provide full financial support to Kashmir Khalistan Referendum Front in a case filed by it against Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, and two others in District Court of Houston, Texas. The KKRF filed a case on September 19 against Narendra Modi, Indian Home Minister Amit Shah, and a Commander of Indian Army in occupied Kashmir, Lt. General Kanwal Jeet Singh, maintained that these people have acted together and in violation of international law repealed special status of occupied Kashmir and are involved in human rights violations in the territory.
