Srinagar, October 27 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Employees Movement, Muhammad Shafi Lone has said that Kashmir dispute is the root cause of tension between Pakistan.

Muhammad Shafi Lone in a statement issued in Srinagar said that the first Indian Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, went to the United Nations and pledged to hold a referendum and provide people of Kashmir a chance to determine their future. He said that the Indian leaders repeated the pledge in Indian Parliament and even at Lal Chowk in Srinagar but after the passage of seven decades the commitment remained unfulfilled.

He deplored that Indian forces on daily basis were killing Kashmiris and destroying residential houses but the international community had become a mute spectator. Has also denounced the continued military lockdown and communications blackout imposed by the Indian government in occupied Kashmir after it scrapped Kashmir’s special status on August 5.

He said that India had created tense situation on the Line of Control besides imposing draconian laws, curbing political activities and committing state terrorism in occupied Kashmir.

Muhammad Shafi Lone urged the world community to play role in settlement of the lingering Kashmir dispute according to the UN resolutions and aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

He said that on this day in 1947 Indian army illegally landed in Kashmir and took its control forcibly. He said, right from the day, India has been treating Kashmir as its colony and Kashmiri people its slaves who have no human rights.
