United Nations, October 27 (KMS): OIC officials and a top Saudi diplomat have voiced strong support for the Kashmiri people in their struggle for the UN-pledged right to self-determination at a special event held in New York to mark the 72nd anniversary of India’s invasion and occupation of Jammu and Kashmir.

The largely-attended event was organized by Ambassador Maleeha Lodhi, the outgoing Pakistan’s ambassador to the UN.

Ambassador Abdallah Y. Al-Mouallimi, permanent representative of Saudi Arabia to the UN, reaffirmed his country’s unequivocal support for Kashmir and Pakistan. He said that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia had always stood by Pakistan on Kashmir and had always advocated self-determination for the Kashmiri people.

Meanwhile, Malaysia-based 10 non-governmental organisations in a joint statement in Kuala Lumpur urged the United Nations Security Council to resolve the Kashmir dispute as per its resolution passed in 1948. The demand was made in solidarity with all the Kashmiri people. The NGOs demanded the dismantling of the lockdown of Kashmir by India, revocation of the draconian laws and prosecution of the Indian forces involved in human right abuses, release of detained leaders and activists, an independent investigation into enforced disappearances and the grant to right of self-determination to the Kashmiri people.
