Srinagar, November 19 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, four Indian soldiers and two civilian porters, were hit and killed by snow avalanche in Ladakh region.
A group of eight persons, including six soldiers from Dogra Regiment, was patrolling the area when the avalanche hit them at Siachen Glacier and killed 4 soldiers and 2 porters while two soldiers were lucky to survive the calamity.
A spokesperson for the Indian troops of Northern Command said the rescue teams from nearby posts were rushed to the location. All eight personnel were pulled out of the avalanche debris and taken to the nearest military hospital. The four soldiers and two porters succumbed to extreme hypothermia, said Col Rajesh Kalia, Srinagar-based spokesperson for the Indian Army.
Siachen is the world’s highest battlefield. Indian soldiers are deployed there since 1984. In February 2016, 10 Indian soldiers were killed in an avalanche.
