The delegation headed by Mr Zafar Bangash, Convener, Friends of Kashmir, Canada, and Director, Institute of Contemporary Islamic Thought, and comprised Dr Jonathan Kuttab, an international human rights lawyer, Mrs Karen Rodman, Founder and Director of the Canadian NGO Just Peace Advocates and Ms Michaela Lavis, a Masters student at York University in Toronto. »

Chandigarh, December 09 (KMS): Indian police used brute force and stopped Sikh representative organizations, Dal Khalsa, Shiromani Akali Dal and Sikh students’ body during a march towards Sriangar, occupied Kashmir, on the eve of World Human Rights Day, the 10th December.

The Sikh bodies’ protest march was led by Sardar Simran Jeets Singh Maan, Prof Mohinder Pal Singh, Harpal Singh Cheema, Kanwarpal Singh, Kashmiri Sikh leader, Narender Singh Khalsa and Kashmiri Sikh youth leader, Angand Singh. They were to sit-in at Lal Chowk in Srinagar, occupied Kashmir. »

Srinagar, December 09 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the authorities formally closed the already deserted-looking primary schools on Monday due to adverse weather conditions as heavy fog engulfed most parts of the Kashmir Valley.

Gilani urges world to intervene for Kashmir settlement

Srinagar, December 09 (KMS): The Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control and the world over will observe World Human Rights Day as Black Day, tomorrow, to draw the attention of the international community towards the worsening human rights situation in occupied Kashmir.

Call for observance of the day has been given by the Chairman of All Parties Hurriyat Conference, Syed Ali Gilani. The day will be marked with complete shutdown in occupied Kashmir to condemn blatant human rights violations by India. Syed Ali Gilani in a statement issued in Srinagar said in view of the growing repression against the Kashmiri people by Indian rulers, the responsibility of the international community has increased manifold to play its active and effective role in settlement of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the relevant UN resolutions.

The World Human Rights Day is observed across the globe on 10 December every year to honour the United Nations General Assembly’s adoption and proclamation, on 10th of December 1948, of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. »

Islamabad, December 09 (KMS): Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (JKDFP) has voiced serious concern over the deteriorating health condition of incarcerated party Chairman Shabbir Ahmed Shah who is languishing in New Delhi’s Tihar jail for the past two years.

In a statement issued in Islamabad on Monday, JKDFP President Mehmood Ahmed Saghar strongly condemned Indian authorities for not providing health facilities to Shabbir Ahmad Shah who is facing multiple ailments. “Shabir Ahmed Shah is seriously ill. He is a diabetic patient and the jail authorities are not providing him due treatment which constitutes to criminal negligence”, the JKDFP leader said adding that Indian authorities were playing with his life.

Terming it as a deliberate attempt to punish the ailing leader for his historic role in the ongoing liberation struggle Saghar said that the fascist Indian government led by Narander Modi would be solely responsible if anything untoward happened to him. »

Muzaffarabad, December 09 (KMS): A freedom activist, Asghar who was seriously injured in a traffic accident a few days ago succumbed in a Muzaffarabad hospital, today.

Asghar belonged to Banihal area of Ramban district in Jammu region. His funeral prayers will be offered at Ambur Camp in Muzaffarabad at 2:00pm, this afternoon.

The deceased was a brave and devout freedom fighter who served all his life for the Kashmir cause. Members of the Kashmiri community have expressed profound grief and sorrow over the death of Asghar.

Call for observance of the day has been given by the Chairman of All Parties Hurriyat Conference, Syed Ali Gilani. The day is celebrated annually across the world on 10 December every year to honour the United Nations General Assembly’s adoption and proclamation, on 10 December 1948, of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), the first global enunciation of human rights and one of the first major achievements of the new United Nations.

The day will be marked with complete shutdown across occupied Jammu and Kashmir to convey to the world community that the lingering Kashmir dispute awaits its active and effective intervention to stop blatant human rights violations by India and to settle the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the relevant UN resolutions. »
