Srinagar, January 09 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the Indian police have issued a circular urging people to officially register the WhatsApp groups they moderate.

This move comes after a five-month internet shutdown in the occupied territory which is still ongoing in most parts of the Kashmir Valley. The Indian government blocked internet and telecommunications services in occupied Kashmir on August 05, 2019 to prevent anti-India demonstrations when it revoked the special status of the territory.

An order from Kargil police, tweeted by local publication Ladakh Times, suggests that the admins have to register their WhatsApp groups at the nearest police station. Moreover, they’ll be held responsible for contents shared in the group. »

New Delhi, Jan 09 (KMS): Students came out in large numbers across India on Wednesday to protest Sunday’s violence against students at the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) while Opposition parties, including the Congress, announced they would soon meet to decide their future course of action.
In a separate development, New Delhi moved the Supreme Court, seeking transfer of petitions challenging constitutional validity of the CAA pending before different high courts to the top court.
A bench headed by Chief Justice S A Bobde posted the matter for January 10. The Bench, also comprising justices B R Gavai and Surya Kant, said, “We are of the prima facie view that high courts should hear petitions challenging CAA and in case there is a conflict then we may look into it”. »

Guwahati, Jan 09 (KMS): Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is unlikey to inaugurate the 3rd Khelo India Youth Games 2020 here on January 10 as BJP Assam unit is yet to receive confirmation about his programme.
An invitation was sent to the PMO to invite Modi to inaugurate the Khelo India Youth Games but no confirmation on it has been received, BJP state unit spokesman Rupam Goswami told media on Wednesday.
“There is no talk about the prime minister coming to Guwahati to inaugurate Khelo India. Sending an invitation to the PM is a formality. We have not received any confirmation from the PMO to our invitation,” he said when asked whether Modi has cancelled his visit to Assam, which is witnessing protests against the contentious Citizenship Amendment Act. »

Muzaffarabad, Jan 09 (KMS): Azad Jammu and Kashmir President Sardar Masood Khan has unequivocally said the people of Pakistan and AJK – in the length and cranny of the world – are determined to take the Kashmir liberation movement to its ultimate goal and “they will not allow any negligence in regard to the decades-old conflict”.
Talking to a delegation of refugees from Indian Occupied Kashmir (IOK) at Aiwan-e-Sadr in Muzaffarabad on Wednesday, he said New Delhi is attempting to create frustration among Kashmiris living on both sides of the Line of Control (LoC) through rumours to weaken the bond between Pakistan and IOK.
The Himalayan region has been under clampdown for the last 157 days since the Modi government stripped the valley of its special autonomy. »
