Speakers urge trade sanctions on India

Srinagar, February 09 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, normal life was paralyzed due to complete shutdown on the occasion of the seventh martyrdom anniversary of Kashmiri leader, Muhammad Afzal Guru, today.

Call for the strike was given by the All Parties Hurriyat Conference Chairman, Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq-led Hurriyat forum, the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front and other pro-freedom leaders and organizations. All shops and business establishments were closed while traffic was off the road. Stringent measures in the name of security were taken to prevent anti-India protests. Hundreds of personnel of Indian army, police and paramilitary forces were patrolling deserted streets in the territory, which already continues to remain under military lockdown and gag on internet on 189th consecutive day, today.

Hurriyat leaders and organizations have also called for complete shutdown on Tuesday to mourn the martyrdom anniversary of another prominent liberation leader, Muhammad Maqbool Butt. India had hanged Muhammad Afzal Guru in New Delhi’s Tihar Jail on 9th February, 2013 and Muhammad Maqbool Butt in the same jail on 11th February, 1984. Their bodies remain buried in the premises of the jail. »

India had hanged Muhammad Afzal Guru in New Delhi’s Tihar Jail on 9th February, 2013 and Muhammad Maqbool Butt in the same jail on 11th February, 1984, for their role in Kashmir freedom movement. Their bodies remain buried in the premises of the jail. »

Srinagar, February 09 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, Indian police arrested five youth during cordon and search operations in Badgam and Bandipora districts.

Three of detained youth identified as Amir Shafi Dar, Shabir Ahmed Ganie and Mudasir Ahmed Khan were arrested from Badgam while two other youth Irfan Aziz Butt and Mohammad Asif Parray from Bandipora district.

Police falsely claimed that the detainees were over-ground workers (OGWs) for mujahideen.

Srinagar, February 09 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, police have registered a case against Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) after it called for a shutdown in the Kashmir Valley, in connection with the martyrdom anniversaries of prominent Kashmiri martyrs Muhammad Afzal Guru and Muhammad Maqbool Butt, being observed today and on Tuesday, respectively.

The JKLF had recently called for strike on February 9 and 11 to commemorate Afzal Guru and Maqbool Butt’s martyrdom days. »

Srinagar, February 09 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, unknown gunmen shot dead a man in Pulwama district on Sunday evening.

Reports said that the unknown gunmen fired upon Ghulam Nabi Mir of Tral Payeen, leaving him injured.

He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, however, he succumbed on the way. »

Toronto, February 09 (KMS): The speakers at a seminar in Toronto, Canada, have urged India to immediately lift the inhuman military siege on the 8 million people and stop all human rights violations in the occupied territory.

The seminar was organized by the Friends of Kashmir, Canada, in connection with the Kashmir Solidarity Day to show solidarity with the Kashmiris and raise voice against Indian brutalities in the territory.

The speakers in their addresses called upon the Indian government to withdraw all its troops including Armed Constabulary from Kashmir, particularly from cities, towns and villages to enable resumption of normal life and create conducive environment for the plebiscite to be held under the auspices of the UN as enshrined in the UNSC resolutions on Kashmir. »

New Delhi, February 09 (KMS): Congress General Secretary, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has said that the BJP government has made a prison out of the beautiful land of Jammu and Kashmir.

While commenting on the appalling human rights situation in occupied Kashmir, Priyanka in a tweet, said, “Continued internet blackout, illegal detentions & not to mention archaic laws slapped on popular politicians in order to keep them silent – this is the reality of J&K.”
