Geneva, March 07 (KMS): Kashmiri representative, Syed Faiz Naqshbandi, has said that Kashmir dispute should be resolved in accordance with the relevant United Nations resolutions on Kashmir.

Syed Faiz Naqshbandi addressing during the ongoing 43rd session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva said that UN resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir called for a free and impartial plebiscite to allow the Kashmiris to decide their future. He said that the UN resolutions were also endorsed by the first Indian Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru, and the Indian representatives in the UN Security Council from time to time.

He said that the Indian government’s unilateral illegal and unlawful decision to repeal Kashmir’s special status and divide it into two union territories on August 5, 2019, was against the UN resolutions and international law. “This situation has increased human rights abuses and Indian military might. This is a threat to regional peace and security,” he added.

Syed Faiz Naqshbandi deplored that India had turned occupied Kashmir into a huge prison and Kashmiris as prisoners. He said that all Kashmiri leaders were put either under house arrest or detained in different jails of the occupied territory and India. “Thousands of young boys have been abducted, arbitrarily detained, tortured and maimed. There is no freedom of speech and free movement in occupied Kashmir,” he maintained.

He said that over nine hundred thousand troops were stationed in occupied Kashmir which was the highest army concentration anywhere in the world – one Indian soldier for 8 Kashmiris.

Syed Faiz Naqshbandi urged the Un Human Rights Council to impress upon India to stop human rights violations in occupied Kashmir and abide by the human rights standards.
