Srinagar, June 25 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Political Movement (DPM), a constituent of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference, has hailed the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) for holding the meeting of its Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir.

The OIC Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir in its meeting on Monday expressed deep concern over the worsening human rights and humanitarian situation in occupied Kashmir and demanded India to stop any move towards changing the demographic structure of the territory. It said the question of Kashmir is of utmost importance for Muslim Ummah and called upon its member states to raise the dispute in their bilateral engagements with India.

The DPM in a meeting presided over by its Chairman Khawaja Firdous in Srinagar thoroughly discussed the current grim situation of occupied Kashmir. The participants of the meeting said that describing Kashmir as an issue of the Muslim Ummah by the OIC Contact Group was a commendable and positive development.

Addressing the meeting, Khawaja Firdous lauded the support and commitment of the OIC Contact Group for a just resolution of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the Kashmiris’ aspirations. He said that the Kashmiri people were grateful to the government of Pakistan for convening the emergency and important meeting of the OIC Contact Group. He hoped that Pakistan would immediately convene a meeting of the OIC Foreign Ministers to highlight the Kashmir dispute and to force India to stop the massive human rights violations in occupied Kashmir.

Khawaja Firdous said that Pakistan was an important party to the Kashmir dispute and also an advocate of Kashmiris. He added that Pakistan had all along been calling for a permanent solution to the Kashmir dispute for ensuring peace in the region. Peace in South Asia is in danger due to India’s stubbornness, he added.

He strongly condemned the issuance of licences for the sale of liquor in the occupied territory by Indian authorities and termed it interference in the religious affairs of Kashmiri Muslims.

The participants of the meeting strongly denounced the surge in Indian state terrorism in occupied Kashmir. They reiterated the Kashmiris’ resolve to continue their liberation struggle till complete success.

The meeting was attended by the DPM General Secretary, Pir Hilal Ahmed, and all the district presidents of the party.
