Islamabad, August 08 (KMS): The Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) has welcomed the 5th August UN Security Council meeting that discussed the Kashmir dispute and the prevailing situation in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

The Acting Chairman of DFP, Mehmood Ahmed Saghar in a statement issued in Islamabad, today, while terming it a positive development, said that it was for the third time that the highest diplomatic forum had met to discuss situation in IIOJK since India had illegally abrogated its special status on August 5, last year.

“The UNSC meeting amply demonstrates the fast-growing realization about the dire humanitarian crisis in IIOJK at world level”, Saghar said, adding that it was also a reaffirmation of the fact that the world powers viewed the developments taking place in IIOJK as a threat to regional peace and stability as well as the well-being of Kashmiri people.

He said that the Indian government must realize the ground realities and accept that the Kashmir dispute couldn’t be just ignored or swept under the carpet.

Meanwhile, Saghar voiced his party’s serious concern over the continued illegal detention of party chairman, Shabbir Ahmed Shah and other Kashmiri political detainees who have been arrested under draconian Public Safety Act (PSA) before and after 5th August 2019.
